Helping Veterans – One Day at a Time
His name is Anthony Silvera – and he sits on the other side of the wall of where I write every day. He is caring, gentle, and extremely dedicated to finding career opportunities at Northwell Health for veterans in our communities. After serving 30 years in the Air Force, Anthony joined our organization in April 2015. “I relate to our vets coming home looking for work, because I walked in their shoes,” says Anthony.
Let’s take a peek inside his day.
Good morning – did I wake you up? Do you have some time to talk? If not, let’s pick a time that’s good for you, and I will call you back.
Your resume could use some work, try cutting down on the paragraphs or consider using bullet points instead. A resume is so important – they need to be quick, sharp and well written. Let me help you with this.
I hear ya buddy. It’s not easy. But we are here to help you.
“Due to Anthony’s amazing work and personal touch, we now have hundreds of connections to veteran and workforce organizations,” says Elaine Page, Chief People Innovation Officer.
Anthony will be transitioning from Talent Recruitment to the Department of Diversity & Health Equity. I will miss eavesdropping on his encouraging words and guidance. He deserves not only a round of applause for serving our country, but a round of applause for helping Northwell Health hire over 500 vets a year.
“I look forward to my new role, I think it will allow me to further connect with our communities and better help our workforce relate to our patients and visitors with empathy, compassion and care. Every day is a new day and I look forward to helping others,” adds Anthony.

Are all vets given the same opportunities as Mr. Silvera?
Margie – All Northwell Health employees have the opportunity to grow within our organization. The Center for Learning and Innovation is a great place to start if you are looking for courses in leadership. I love that you are opening up that conversation. Thank you!
