Five simple stress-busters for the holidays
“Even if you embrace just one of these de-stress tips this holiday season, you may lighten your load, find your zen and make the people around you a lot happier, too,” says Melinda Nasti, Manager, System Chaplaincy and Employee Wellness.
Attitude of gratitude
It seems like volunteering is about the last thing we have time to do during the holidays, but volunteering, even if for even an hour, makes a difference to others in need and lifts your spirits, too. Another way to reconnect with your holiday spirit, is to disconnect from the commercialism of the holidays and spend a few minutes a day reflecting on your blessings.
Hold on to daily routines
You may not fit in time for a full workout but don’t bother to fight for the spots close to the mall. Park further away and use the longer walk to clear your mind. If you like to read, squeeze in a half hour before bed, or have a cup of tea in the middle of your busy day. Don’t sacrifice these grounding practices to do more. Most importantly, try to stick to your normal sleep pattern.
Make the holidays meaningful
What do you truly love about the holidays? What traditions are important to keep? Concentrate on things that are truly meaningful and try to eliminate the rest.
Just say Later
It is hard to say “NO” but sometimes you can move events to after the traditional holiday season. It can be more relaxing and meaningful to celebrate with your friends or family after the holidays when everyone is more relaxed. Think outside of the box – try an Untrimming the tree party. It is a fun way to complete what might otherwise be a chore.
You are the gift
We all have areas of expertise that can help people on our list so instead of heading to the mall, how about giving a gift voucher to share, yourself, a technical expertise or a skill. Visit an elderly neighbor or family member, plant a garden, babysit or pet-sit, share a favorite app. There are so many ways we can give.
Season’s Greetings! The Employee Wellness team wishes you a season of peace and good health.
Happy Holidays and Believe! Believe in saying no 🙂
A lesson that definitely takes practice, as we know quite well. Happy holidays to you and yours, Sally Ann.
Everyday that we reflect how grateful we are, true happiness then inspires others with no limitations.
So true, Helen. Happy New Year to you!
The simple things in life often bring the most joy and peace of mind! Happy Holidays to all.
Yes, Mary Anne. We put so much pressures on ourselves, when it would be so much more peaceful to just keep it simple and reflect. Happy New Year to you. Wishing you an abundance of joy and peace.
Reflecting on what your grateful for is so important not only during the holiday season but all year long. ❤️👍👏.
