Three Decades of Caring and Sharing
Meet Elvira Francischelli, senior mammography technologist, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, as she celebrates 30 years of doing good for her patients, and everyone who surrounds her!
“Well it’s really been 41 years if you count my years in school at LIJ” adds Elvira. Perky, vivacious, and filled with a great sense of humor and compassion, this queen of mammography speaks to three decades of caring for others.
“It’s simple – we do good medicine here. Our doctors, radiologists, surgeons, support staff – they are all super. There is no other place to be than right here at Northwell Health. We believe in our patients – our patients are number one!”
Elvira was one of many groundbreakers introducing
stereotactic mammography needle biopsies in 1991.
“I am the first mammography technologist on the eastern seaboard to have performed a stereotactic mammography needle biopsy. It’s been a wonderful and humbling experience helping my patients.”
When asking Elvira how she puts her patients at ease through the screening/diagnosis/treatment process…
“I share my life – open and out front. I talk to my patients and their families like they are my own family.”
Although I wanted to spend hours more with the queen of mammography, my final question was “Who inspired you to do such good for others?”
“I owe my career and my love of my career to my mother. In my junior year of high school she said – you are good at math and science, and you are good with people, so there you are – go find a job in health care.”
Sometimes it’s that simple.
