Helping to Make Wishes Come True
Meet Joyce Berardi, surgical technologist in the delivery room at North Shore University Hospital. Joyce’s dedication to making families happy and whole doesn’t stop in the delivery room – Joyce also volunteers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“I first got involved with the Foundation in 2008 when I saw an ad with a girl running through the woods dressed as a fairy. I remember thinking how pure and simple this wish was and how much happiness it brought by providing the child and her family a positive distraction to hospital life,” says Joyce.
I feel honored to be a part of their efforts, and super excited that Northwell Health has joined forces to make even more wishes come true.
Make-A-Wish is dedicated to granting wishes to children coping with life-threatening medical conditions. Since Northwell partnered with the Lake Success-based Metro New York and Western New York chapter, our employees have raised over almost $50,000 through Make-A-Wish stars, food trucks, raffling event tickets and hosting special party events. In addition, Northwell Health came in as number one fund-raiser for its 2016 Walk for Wishes, raising over $22,000.
Volunteering for Make-A-Wish gives me great joy. I have met so many families and heard so many endearing stories of hope, all while acting as a phone greeter, special events coordinator, and wish granter – which is my favorite role.
If you are interested in Make-A-Wish volunteering opportunities, we’d love to have you!
In the meantime, I hope to see you at Eisenhower Park on September 10 for this year’s Walk for Wishes. Donate or join our Northwell team – and help make a wish come true.
Please share your fundraising ideas in the comments box — and thank you Joyce!
Thank you for doing this! I joined your team!
